I have made it to the top!
There are lots of parallels that can be drawn from this experience when considering being at the top of anything in life. And, there are many experiences to be had at the top, some of which were surprising. Here are a few:
- There is great scenery of the surrounding area, but everything else is at a distance. You can see many other mountains at this elevation, but you can't expect to get close to them. Just by being of the top of this mountain doesn't help you be at the top of that one at the same time. (You may be the best at one thing, but that doesn't guarantee you can be the best at anything else without putting in the same type of effort it took to be the best right where you are.)
- From below, the imagination says it must be peaceful up on top, but once there, the conditions in fact are quite harsh (wind, temperatures, lack of vegetation giving proof. It's difficult to breathe. Bright sun requires special protection when skies are clear; white-out conditions exist when clouds surround.)
- From on top, everything down below looks peaceful, and it can be, but as we all know, 'tain't necessarily so.
- You can not make it to the top without significant help from others, or without special training, or with the thought it will be easy. You have to take care of yourself, for no one else will. But you can't be selfish either, or you will not succeed. You need to listen to others, or you will fail. Some will be better at some things than you, and that's OK, too....you may be better than them at something else, and both are important.
- What happens after getting to the top is harder by far than getting to the top. If you give everything you have to make it to the top and do not have a plan for what happens after, you can be in desperate trouble.
There are other thoughts, but I'll leave them for a later posting.
I am very pleased at reaching this goal!
